In partnership with Creative Scotland, the local authority has established two new bursary schemes as a means of assisting individual emerging artists and makers. Funds can help towards the development of skills and training, the creation of new work, and developing an individual’s ability to present and market new work.
Each bursary recipient will be supported by a mentor in a relevant field, who will provide one-to-one support and advice to assist the practitioner in defining their goals, developing their work, and achieving their aspirations. If you have a mentor in mind, please ensure that you complete section 7 of the application form.
The Visual Artist Bursary is aimed at emerging practitioners in the fields of drawing, painting, sculpture, print making, photography, moving image and filmmaking.
The Craft Maker Bursary is principally concerned with contemporary creative work conceived, designed and made by individual practitioners in ceramics, furniture and wood, glass, jewellery and metalwork, lettering, musical instruments, textiles and basket-making.
The two bursaries are available to ‘emerging practitioners’ who meet one of these three criteria:
•those who have completed their formal education within the last 5 years.
•those who began working in their field of practice within the last 5 years.
•those who have returned to their field of practice after a prolonged break of 10 years or more, within the last 5 years.
Funds Available
There is one bursary available to visual artists and one bursary available to craft makers. Each year-long bursary is worth £1500. £750 will be paid at the beginning of the 12 month period, with a further £750 paid after six months. Closing date for application 11/04/2014.
