FIPCOM - the Fujairah International Photojournalism Competition - emerged from the fast-growing Emirate of Fujairah’s determination to invest heavily in the sector of culture and communication. Through the Fujairah Culture and Media Authority (FCMA), which strives to foster cultural development and enrichment, Fujairah has partnered with Agence France-Presse to offer professional photojournalists the opportunity to enter the FIPCOM competition. AFP is internationally recognized for the excellence of its photojournalists.
The competition is open to all professional photojournalist. A professional is defined as any individual over the age of 18 whose occupation as a photographer accounts for more than half of his or her annual income.
Entries will be considered from 1 January 2014 to 31 January 2014 at 23:59. Entries shall be made through the competition website at www.fipcom.net Instructions are available for download in the “Competition” section of the website at www.fipcom.net. All pictures must have been shot in 2013.
Themes:
News :
Pictures covering (major) news topics and their aftermaths, in such areas as politics, economics, conflict, social tension, relief and reconstruction work, and crime.
Environment :
Pictures documenting issues affecting people’s lives and society today, relating to social, environmental, health, other such areas.
Sport :
Pictures capturing defining moments during major sporting events or top-level contests.
Economy :
Pictures documenting issues affecting people’s lives and society today relating to the economy or economical issues.
Reportage :
Series of five pictures about a defined subject. Pictures must be placed in a precise order to make sense.
The prize award ceremony will be held in Les Docks - Cité de la Mode et du Design early March, as well as the winner’s exhibition, from the 14th of March to the 14th of April. Their work will also be displayed in two exhibitions, one in the heart of Paris, the second in the Emirate of Fujairah.
