The Arches’ Platform 18: New Directions award aims to support the UK’s most talented emergent stage directors by offering them the opportunity to stage a funded theatre production at The Arches and Traverse Theatre Edinburgh in April 2014. In line with our longstanding commitment to supporting and nurturing emergent theatre talent, the award is open to all stage directors who can demonstrate a commitment to working professionally in Scotland. The project is run in association with the Traverse Theatre.
The award offers an emergent stage director the resources and mentoring support to stage a professional production from inception right up to performance, before being showcased for one week alongside a programme of high-profile international work as part of The Arches’ Behaviour Festival in April subsequently transferring to the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh the following week.
This includes a budget of £6000 and dedicated support including three weeks of rehearsal space, the support of a Production Manager, Technical Stage Manager and The Arches Marketing Team, and the resources required to stage their work at the Traverse. Crucially, each award winner is matched with an experienced mentor to steer them through all stages of the creative and production process.
