In partnership with the Goethe-Institut Dänemark, Skaftfell – Center for Visual Art is able to offer a grant for one artist for a two-month residency in 2018.
The residency program at Skaftfell aims to create and nurture an environment for inspiration, focus, and experiment. The art center, est. 1998, is based in the small fjord town of Seyðisfjörður, East Iceland. With a population of around 650, the center ́s key role has been to present and encourage the development of contemporary art. The center is a meeting point for artists and locals through exhibitions and events as well as running an international residency and education program.
The Skaftfell residencies are self-directed and provide, space, time and solitude for research and/or for the production of work. The program is best suited for visual artists but artists with interdisciplinary practices and curators are also welcome to apply.
Opportunities the artists-in-residence can participate in include: artist talks, open studios, workshops for the local community and for primary school children and the Skaftfell educational program. Artists-in-residence may also propose an exhibition in Seyðisfjörður in conclusion to their stay.
The Goethe-Institut residency grant includes
- Travel costs up to 650 EUR for international and domestic travel to Seyðisfjörður. Collectable after booking.
- Monthly allowance of 1000 EUR per month.
- Fully covered residency fee.
- Production costs up to 350 EUR.
Eligibility
German artists, and international artists who are permanently based in Germany with a strong and continuous involvement in the German art scene, are eligible to apply.
