Scotland: Meet Your Maker event hosted by the National Museum of Scotland

Meet Your Maker is national celebration of Scottish craft making. Meet your Maker is part of Craft Scotland's flagship campaign to connect craft makers at work with the public. It's a campaign that aims to showcase the skill, design and quality of Scotland's talented makers. For 2014 we have partnered with ten different venues who will offer Meet Your Maker events as part of their own annual programmes. Each unique event will coincide with exhibitions, festivals or be part of a dedicated Meet Your Maker residency. During the events, makers give a rare behind the scenes look at their craft work.Meet the makers and learn about their inspiration, practices and profession. See the design, process and techniques behind their craft. Discover their creativity, skill and dedication.
In 2014 the team offered venues the opportunity to host and run their own Meet Your Maker programme, and they are currently looking for makers to take part in this year's programme at the National Museum of Scotland.
National Museums Scotland is one of the leading museum groups in the UK and Europe and it looks after collections of national and international importance.
The museum reopened in summer 2011 following a three-year, £47m redevelopment. Since then it has entered the top ten most popular UK visitor attractions (ALVA), becoming the most popular attraction in the country outside of London. With over 4.5 million visitors since re-opening, the Museum is also one of the top 20 most popular art museums and galleries in the world (The Art Newspaper).
For Meet Your Maker, the National Museum of Scotland would like to host six makers across two weekends to showcase their work and demonstrate their craft. The venue will host three makers each weekend, and is looking for makers who have a strong individual contemporary style, and who are able to demonstrate and communicate their making skills to the public. The selection will be judged on the quality of the work and how the work fits within the broader selection of makers nationwide.
Meet Your Maker at the National Museum of Scotland will take place over two weekends, 22-23 and 29-30 November 2014. The venue requires makers to be present from 10am to 4pm as a minimum each day. Deadline for receipt of applications is 5pm on Friday 04 July 2014.
