Deutsche Bahn Stiftung gGmbH - Put depression into the right perspective!

Depression is one of the most common and, in terms of its severity, most underestimated illnesses. In Germany one out of five people suffer from depression at least once in their lives. However, it is often misunderstood as an anxiety disorder (grief, melancholic mood, burnout etc.), which leads to the fact that many sufferers are not treated adequately or not at all.
Depression should be perceived as an illness that can affect everyone, linked with the positive message that it can be treated. With more knowledge about the illness and the possible therapy options, a lot of people can be spared a great deal of suffering.
The task:
Find an artistic expression for the subject of depression!
We are looking for purely artistic (and not promotional or advertising-style!) images that give people the courage to admit they are suffering from depression, and encourage them to deal with it and seek help. We are NOT looking for images that merely depict the dark sides of the illness. You have absolute free rein in the artistic technique you use to create your image: a picture drawn by hand or created on the computer is just as welcome as a photograph. There is a total prize pool of €5.500 divided into community prizes for the best ideas, as well as five Jury Awards of €500 each. There are plans to auction off the winning Jury Award images on European Depression Day on 01.10.2014 at a large auction event. The proceeds will be donated to the fight against depression.
Submission period starts Jul 29, 2014.
