Conflux's International Residencies Programme 2014

Conflux develops projects for Scottish-based artists working in the field of Physical Performance (incorporating street arts, physical theatre and circus). Conflux creates opportunities for the development of both fully professional and emergent artists. At the heart of Conflux is its programme of artist’s residencies. Creating opportunities for specialist training, new collaborations and the investigation of original approaches to the creation of street arts, physical theatre and circus, these residencies allow artists based in Scotland to pursue radical developments in their work.

Conflux is seeking early-career artists who have recently started producing their own work, and who have imaginative concepts for creating and performing new works of full-length, indoor physical theatre. We are looking for imaginative proposals for small-scale performances of between 40 minutes and one hour in length. A programme of such pieces will be presented in July at SURGE 2014 – Scotland’s festival of physical performance'. Conflux will introduce the successful applicants to internationally respected physical / visual theatre makers who will mentor them in the development and realisation of their proposals. This process is designed to help early-career artists to develop their working practice in a guided, supportive environment. As well as being mentored artistically, successful applicants will also be assisted with practical logistics such as budget management and the marketing of their work. Please note: engagement with the mentorship process is an inherent part of the programme’s ethos.

The finished performances may also be provided with the opportunity to tour to further festivals in Europe in autumn 2014, dependent on content and tour ability.
