Scotland: Neon Literary Magazine - Submissions for Battery Pack

What Is Battery Pack?

Battery Pack will be a tiny (smaller than palm-sized and with only eight pages) anthology of short stories, made from a single folded sheet of paper. It will be given away for free with the spring issue of Neon, as well as being available for readers anywhere in the world to download, print and fold their own copy. Anyone who donates £10 or more to the project will receive ten copies of Battery Pack on publication to give out to friends and family.

What I’m Looking For

Short stories containing no more than seventy-five words at most. If the story contains paragraph breaks it may be necessary to reduce that wordcount to fifty. I prefer stories where there’s a clear narrative and it’s easy to tell what’s going on. Abstract or purely descriptive pieces are less likely to be selected. I have a slight tendency towards horror, but am happy to read any genre.

Terms

Simultaneous submissions are okay, but please let me know if the piece is accepted elsewhere. I would prefer not to see reprints, as there won’t be space in Battery Pack to properly credit the original publisher. Battery Pack will take one-time non-exclusive serial rights, one-time non-exclusive electronic rights and archival rights to accepted pieces. Accepted authors will be offered a flat payment of £2.50, OR ten copies of Battery Pack to give out to friends and family.

The deadline is March 1st, 2014.
