The idea for this exhibition began with a dissertation topic on the subject of textiles in 16th and 17th century Britain in which textiles were valued in the highest possible respect and boasted by all as a symbol of status.
Famously, Charles I paid more for his clothing in ‘The Great Peece’ showing himself, his wife Henrietta Maria and their two children than he paid Van Dyke, the artist in a whole year.

The team is welcoming works from all disciplines, and are not restricted to textiles. Furthermore, they want to push the boundaries of textiles as a medium so contemporary and adventurous textile pieces will be very well received.
This will be an exhibition that evokes and answers questions but which also provokes thoughts and discussions on the place of material within our history and our even more importantly, our culture.
